The La Grange Rotary Club has partnered with the Rotary Club of San Pedro Sula, Honduras to build a
kindergarten at the Sonrisa Infantil school in Nuevo San Juan, just outside of La Lima, Honduras.
The school will replace a former building that had been damaged by a series of hurricanes. Until the school is built, parents must walk nearly three miles with their child to the nearest kindergarten.
This project was made possible through funding from the LaGrange Rotary Club, donations from the Rotary Clubs of Western Springs, Chicagoland Lithuanians, Naperville Sunrise, Darien, Brookfield Field-Riverside, Oak Park-River Forest, and San Pedro Sula, district designated funds from Rotary Districts 6450 and 4250, and matching grant funds from The Rotary Foundation.
After delays due to COVID, a hurricane and government changes, ground was finally broken for the kindergarten in August 2022.
